"A Visual Smile"

Linda's skillful renderings are often called "an improvement on nature." Her richly-detailed botanicals, peaceful landscapes and vivid street scenes have won repeated awards including Artist of the Year by the Torrance Art Guild.  She has exhibited in numerous art shows throughout northern and southern California, Arizona and Nevada. Her pieces reside in corporate and private collections across the country.

Winning high school awards, then attending The Art Institute of Chicago, she has continued with sculpture, life drawing, oil painting classes and workshops from local and internationally known artists.

After coming to California in 1975, the emphasis settled on watercolors where the majority of the work has remained. Painting full-time on a daily basis in her Redondo Beach, California studio for the past six years has heightened her ever-evolving creative skills.

Linda travels whenever possible to bring back those images that catch her eye; those "special moments in time" to share with viewers. Although working mostly from photographs and mini-sketches, she accentuates and eliminates from the original scene to create a more pleasing composition. Each piece encourages the viewer to step into the painting and experience the mood of tranquility and peace that inspired her.

"Transparent watercolor, being the most difficult of mediums, has a mind of its own. Learning how to guide and float the paint on paper to achieve the intended outcome is a never-ending challenge. The layered glazing of colors, one upon the other, gives the painting a rich depth difficult to obtain with any other medium. The sun-splashed areas fly out at you while the backgrounds have hidden shadows and forms that let the imagination soar.

"My paintings are like a good mystery novel," she explains, "the excitement of combining the puzzle pieces, solving all the technical problems, and always hungry to start another. "
